I kind of think this song is very cheesy, hence the ukulele and the da da da's, but sometimes cheesy things are necessary. The specific girl that this song is about is someone that will never be made light of my feelings for her because I think somethings are better left that way. Anyway on another level this song is could be about the obsessions of any girl. I always draw things on my the glass wall of my shower, as a kid i would draw people, write girls names, or "you're going to die soon." ( but that was to scare my brothers). I also think that spontaneously buying a girl a gas station rose and all of those small cute random signs of affection are really great. I love buying girls gas station roses for no reason so why not write a song about it.
lyrics
I've fantasized about you since I was a kid, growing older and looking back on what we did. (da da da da da da da da)
Like I said I thought about you everyday I'd draw your face on the shower till the steam took you away (da da da da da da)
But I'll never have you because I'm too down on myself but if I had the chance to
i'd buy you gas station roses, Keep you the closest to my everchanging heart.
(annoying whistle)
But I'll never have you because you deserve the best and I'm just a little birdie who's the scared to leave his nest.
